About

NAME CT advances and advocates for educational equity and social justice through multicultural education, and our state chapter is committed to revolutionizing what education is and can be. We do this by advancing a philosophy of inclusion that embraces the basic tenets of cultural pluralism; promoting cultural and ethnic diversity as local strengths; fostering equity for all; promoting professional and social exchanges between people from all community and academic spaces as well as from diverse educational institutions and occupations; and representing and addressing the needs of the multicultural education community.

NAME CT’s core values are:

1. We are an inclusive, open, democratic, diverse, and caring community that values the diversity of its members and partners, as well as the broader biodiversity of the planet.

2. We actively oppose any effort to target, harass, intimidate or exclude individuals or groups on the basis of race, ethnicity, class, gender identity, sexual orientation, language, religion, nation of origin, abilities, immigration status, or profession. This includes destroying or polluting the resources on which they depend to survive and thrive.

3. We stand in solidarity with individuals and groups who advocate for empowering those who have been and continue to be systemically oppressed.

4. We will create new ongoing professional development networks and resources as well as partner with existing ones to better meet the needs of students, teachers, our communities, and the environment.

We will continue to work diligently alongside our social and eco- justice partners to identify and dismantle systems of oppression, learn from and empower marginalized groups, and foster deeper commitments to diversity and inclusion in both policy and practice.

It is our hope that you, your friends, colleagues, and students will join us to help forge a new vision and network of school and community partners in Connecticut and throughout the Northeast.
